Every Day is an Adventure on the Farm

We are a family of 8 and are blessed to live in the Midwest on the farm where Silas grew up. We live in the most beautiful rural area and along with our Goldens Retrievers, we have beef cattle (Angus + American Wagu), horses, chickens, 2 jersey cows that we milk (most days-or when we are low on milk). Our whole family is involved in raising our Goldens & helping out with the cattle, horses, and chickens.
We didn’t start out here though. We were married young and lived in various places in Wisconsin. River Falls, Platteville, and the Madison area were all places that we called home for awhile, and although we enjoyed each place we lived and met many wonderful people along the way, Silas had a desire to be back on the farm. He always says (in his opinion) the farm is the best place to raise a family.

Our First Golden

Silas grew up with Goldens, so he knew what a great family dog they were. And when we first decided to get a puppy, he naturally thought a Golden would be a perfect fit. It took a bit of juggling and special delivery from Silas’ dad, but we lined up the best Christmas surprise. The girls were allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve, so we very carefully wrapped and snuck the box into the house right before it was time to open their present. When the girls opened up their present and the sweetest little puppy (Trixie) jumped out, there was a lot of jumping up and down, happy commotion and maybe a few tears of joy. I am so glad that I caught it on video and every time I watch it I can’t help but laugh. Of course, Silas was right, Goldens are the greatest family dog.

Our First Litter of Puppies

I still remember our first litter of puppies. There was a lot of excitement when the girls woke up to the little sweet noises of the puppies. We kept close eye that the pups were warm enough and that mama was healthy and the pups were healthy. Trixie was also the best mama and took great care of the pups. Even though Silas’ family raised Goldens while he was growing up, we have still learned so many things along the way. It is amazing to watch as each pup grows and starts to develop their unique personalities. So much growth & change happens in the first 8 weeks of their life.
The kids love raising the pups, and they help out with pretty much everything—from the everyday care & cuddling of the puppies to the pictures we put on the website and social media. It is always so sweet to see the littlest ones excitement over the puppies!
It is always our hope that every puppy we raise will bring joy & companionship to their new family and that each family will provide continued love & care throughout their Golden’s life.
